Extracorporeal photoimmune therapy (ECP) is a cell based, immuno-modulatory therapy. The UVAR® System incorporates a photo-activatable drug, UVADEX® and ultraviolet energy within a fully automated processing system to safely and effectively treat disease.

The UVAR® XTS™ System is a second-generation photopheresis system, incorporating the latest technological advances in the field of apheresis and photoimmune therapy.
The system incorporates the most advanced and innovative cell processing and process control technologies, delivering the highest levels of quality and patient-focused therapy. This is achieved through a fully automated system that can be tailored to meet the needs of each patient.
The UVAR® XTS™ System utilizes a modular design that minimizes setup time, reduces waste, and optimizes cell collection, treatment and processing. The UVAR® XTS™ has been specifically designed and validated for photoimmune therapy and is the only FDA approved system on the market today. Photopheresis is currently approved for the palliative treatment of the skin manifestations of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL).
Various components within the UVAR® XTS™ System collect blood, segregate the leukocytes (white cells), and then photoactivate them using precise levels of ultraviolet energy on a patient-by-patient basis.
The UVAR® XTS™ Fluid Logic Controller
The Fluid Logic Controller is the heart of the XTS™ System
The UVAR® XTS™ Fluid Logic Controller, is microprocessor-controlled and pneumatically driven. It is the core element within the UVAR® XTS™ Procedural Kit. An integrated fluid logic module in a pre-connected disposable unit, replaces the peristaltic pumps and tubing clamps formerly used, significantly reducing both setup and operation time.
How it works
Externally, the fluid logic module is a molded acrylic cassette that is covered by two flexible PVC membranes. Internally, multiple chambers, pathways, and valves rely on pneumatic pressure to establish appropriate fluid pathways, open and close valves, and move fluid to and from the patient, centrifuge, collection bags, and the photoactivation chamber.
Together, the result is a self-contained, disposable component that optimizes treatment time while maximizing system reliability.
