Manufacturer: Kryotec – Germany
- Fast flowing, ultra cold air washes around the plasma bags to be frozen.
- Only air, probably the physi9ologically safest refrigerant, gets in contact with the plasma bags to be frozen.
- No bath, no methanol, ethanol or even CFC refrigerants.
- The state of aggregation change of the plasma (liquid-solid phase) is a shock-type change and results in optimum plasma quality. The phase separation bearing a risk for the plasma in case of slow freezing and the relating high concenration of salt leading to damage to the factors VIII is excluded.
- Blood plasmas in clinical sizes (220 to 360ml) will reach a temperature of -30°C in the core of the bag within 30 minutes. Pherese plasmas up to 850ml will reach the core temperature of -30°C within 70 minutes. In case of all freezing compartments being simultaneously occupied by fresh plasmas – which is hardly going to happen in practical operation – a time delay of less than 5% is measurable.
